Conversion quality

What converts well?

Documents that were created digitally — exported from Word, Google Docs, Pages or a reporting tool — convert best. That includes:

  • Paragraphs with fonts, sizes, bold, italic, underline, strikethrough and colors
  • Headings (mapped to Word heading styles you can edit)
  • Bulleted and numbered lists (as real Word lists, not typed characters)
  • Tables drawn with borders, including merged cells and shaded cells
  • Images, including transparent PNGs
  • Links, running headers and footers, and page numbers
  • Two-column layouts — read column by column
What converts poorly?

We’d rather tell you upfront:

  • Scanned documents are pictures of pages. The free converter keeps them as images; turning them into text needs OCR, which is in the desktop app.
  • Magazine-style layouts with floating text boxes, wrapped images and decorative shapes come out as a simpler, single-flow document.
  • Tables without borders are converted as text in columns, not as Word tables.
  • Equations become plain text and symbols, not editable Word equations.
  • Form fields are not converted into Word form controls.
  • Some PDFs use fonts with no character map; their text can come out as symbols. We warn you when we detect this.

The output is an editable starting point. On complex documents, expect some cleanup.

Will it look exactly like the PDF?

Close, but not identical — and no converter that produces a genuinely editable document can promise that. A PDF places every word at a fixed position; a Word document flows text. We rebuild paragraphs, lists and tables so you can edit naturally, and we keep each original page on its own page so layout drift doesn’t accumulate.

Why does a two-column page become one column?

We read the columns in the right order (all of the left column, then the right), and place the text in a single flow so it’s easy to edit. You can turn it back into two columns in Word with Layout → Columns.

Privacy

Why aren’t my files uploaded?

Because they don’t need to be. The whole converter runs as code inside your browser tab: the PDF is read from your disk, converted in memory and saved back as a .docx. We never receive the file, its name or its contents.

You can check: open your browser’s developer tools, switch to the Network tab and convert a file. The only thing sent to us is an anonymous “a conversion happened” event with the page count, duration and any warning codes.

Does it work offline?

Once the page has loaded, conversion doesn’t need the internet. The desktop app works completely offline, including license activation.

Free vs. desktop

What are the free limits?

One file at a time, up to 10 pages and 20 MB, no OCR. The desktop app removes all of these.

Is the desktop app a subscription?

No. It’s $14.99 once, and includes every 1.x update. No account required — your license key arrives by email and works offline.

Does it run on Windows and Mac?

Yes — Windows 10/11 (64-bit) and macOS (Apple silicon and Intel). On Windows you can right-click any PDF and choose Convert to Word; you can also convert whole folders at once.

What’s the refund policy?

Refund policy to be published before launch. Until then: please try your own documents in the free converter first — the desktop app uses the same conversion engine.

I lost my license key.
